Tuesday’s calf injury to defender Hector Bellerin during practice exacerbated Barcelona’s injury woes.

The club said in a statement that Bellerin’s injury will be looked at on Wednesday, and it is possible that he will be out for a while like several other players.

Barcelona have lost Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Memphis Depay, and Frenkie de Jong to thigh and hamstring injuries during the international break.

On Wednesday, the Uruguayan defender decided to have surgery for a torn thigh muscle, which will result in the longest absence. He is certain to miss the World Cup and could miss up to three months of action.

Bellerin joined the club from Arsenal in the summer on a one-year contract and is the only natural right-back. If he can’t play against Real Mallorca on Saturday because of his injury, Barcelona may not have enough players to fill in for him.

Injured duo Kounde and Araujo have played there frequently this season, while converted midfielder Sergi Roberto is also a possibility, despite not being totally healthy.
