Land grabbers, aided by police, thugs, invade Lagos community… chase out landlords, tenants

Suspected land grabbers on Friday sacked landlords and tenants living around Idimu area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the suspected land grabbers came with a court order alleging that the family of the late Frederick Olabode Ogundimu had won a court case involving ownership of the land in that vicinity.

It was reported that the suspected enforcers of the court order had stormed the community located in Mafon and Egunje axis, and chased out both tenants and landlords from their houses.

They locked the residents out of their homes.

Reports revealed that the suspected land grabbers came with hoodlums and policemen to evict the landlords and tenants.

One Henry Lowe, who shared the incident on social media, said, “The lawyers of these land grabbers were the ones giving orders and motivating these thugs to be breaking people’s doors and bringing out their properties before locking them out with their own keys. They didn’t care if they have C of O.

“Now, no one can enter their houses. Many people can’t even go to work, as they are now sleeping elsewhere. No empathy at all for both pregnant women and nursing mothers.”

When contacted, the lawyer to the claimant, Michael Ladipo & Co., said there was valid court judgement on the land.

He said the case had been in court and that judgement was issued in 1993. He added that the verdict was not appealed.

Mr. Ladipo said, “There is valid court judgement to that effect. The judgement was issued in 1993 by Justice D.O. Okuwubi of the High Court of Lagos in Suit No ID/523/93 involving Frederick Ogundimu vs Mudashiru Adisa and four others.”

He added, “What was done on Friday was effecting Form O, the warrant of possession. That is, anyone found on the land is said to be trespassing and should be evicted.

“The execution of the court order was carried out in 2017.”

When asked if those residing on the land were notified before Friday, Mr. Ladipo said,

    “They know.”
