House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila on Tuesday failed to name the principal officers for the House.
It has been three weeks since his election as Speaker, and it was widely expected that the names would be announced today, especially as the Senate announced its own principal officers.
There had been intensive speculation by members and the media on who would occupy what positions, following Gbajabiamila’s and Idris Wase’s election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
A member of the House Ad Hoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Bamidele Solam, representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency in Osun State, put the situation in context while giving reporters a brief after plenary on Tuesday.
According to him, the consultation on the matter had not been concluded.
He said: “It was not announced because there’s need for wider and further consultations by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker to be sure that whatever is going to be announced is in consonance with the provision of our rules.
“Before the week runs out, there will be an announcement of all the other principal officers of the House.”
